Mr. Maxwell is an attorney in the firm’s Insurance Coverage & Extracontractual Liability practice group, concentrating his practice in insurance coverage litigation and coverage analysis in New York. He is well versed in preparing coverage opinions and strategies for complex issues arising under New York Insurance Law and has experience drafting motions, pleadings and briefs, as well as preparation for trial and oral arguments for such matters.
Mr. Maxwell attended the University at Buffalo School of Law, graduating magna cum laude with a Juris Doctorate in 2019. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Maxwell completed his undergraduate studies at Medaille College, graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Media and Communications and was employed for five years at a college.
While at the University at Buffalo, Mr. Maxwell served as a member of the Buffalo Law Review, where his student comment discussing the scope of additional insured coverage in New York State was selected for publication and honored with the Justice Philip Halpern Award for Excellence in Writing. Additionally, Mr. Maxwell was awarded the Robert J. Connelly Trial Technique Award in 2019 and the Cali Award for Academic Excellence (top of class) in Complex Litigation.
Mr. Maxwell’s submission in the American College of Coverage Counsel’s (ACCC) National 2019 Law School Practical Skills Writing Competition garnered Second Place honors and an invitation to the ACCC’s 2019 Annual Meeting in Chicago, Illinois.
Mr. Maxwell is also a contributor to Coverage Pointers, Hurwitz Fine’s bi-weekly newsletter. His column “Ryan’s Capital Roundup” profiles the latest legislation and regulations bearing upon all things property and casualty insurance.
