Ms. Heist is an attorney in the firm’s Insurance Coverage Practice Group and its Litigation Department. She focuses her practice on insurance coverage analysis and litigation in both first- and third-party claims in New York State. She is skilled in preparing coverage opinions and strategies for complex issues under New York Insurance Law, and has experience drafting motions, pleadings, and briefs.

Ms. Heist earned her Juris Doctor from the University at Buffalo School of Law, graduating cum laude and in the top 25% of her class. She received her undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Oswego, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.

While in law school, Ms. Heist served as the Head Note & Comment Editor of the Buffalo Law Review. She also participated in the Alternative Dispute Resolution Society and the First Generation Law Students Association. Ms. Heist served as a teaching fellow in Evidence, and as a writing fellow in Academic Legal Writing, and Advanced Legal Analysis, Writing, and Research.

She was a research assistant to Vice Dean Christine P. Bartholomew, where she was tasked with research and writing in the area of antitrust and consumer protection. Ms. Heist’s work contributed to the publication of The Dark Side of Antitrust Statements of Interests, 49 J. Corp. L. 233 (2024).

Ms. Heist was also awarded the Moot Evidence Award, which is awarded to the member of the graduating class for the best performance in evidence.

Ms. Heist gained practical experience as an intern with the Erie County Attorney’s Office, and as the court clerk of the Village of Williamsville. Prior to joining Hurwitz Fine as an associate attorney, Ms. Heist worked as a law clerk at the firm.

Prior to law school, Ms. Heist worked in international banking.
