Buffalo Business First’s Panel of Experts: Diversity & Inclusion

Hurwitz & Fine's President/Managing Partner Jody E. Briandi joined a panel of local figures in the greater Buffalo community to speak on the importance of embracing diversity and inclusion in the workplace on Wednesday, June 16, 2021.

Those on the panel discussed what initiatives their organizations had taken up in order to bolster diversity and inclusivity, as well as how recent events may have changed their approach. When asked about the interplay between COVID and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in the workplace, Jody spoke firsthand on how Hurwitz & Fine responded: “…creating an equal environment was a driving force for our firm…We had a very intentional approach, centered on three things: flexibility, opportunity and mentorship.” Jody noted, “Flexibility in allowing alternative work schedules, the ability to work from home and communicate virtually. Opportunity…by making sure that those who elected to work from home were not overlooked with regard to opportunities: project assignment, advancement. And finally, mentorship [which] was already a key part of our diversity initiative…we had to make sure that the mentorship of our employees continued.”

Jody was joined in this panel by Patricia Clabeaux (Executive Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer of Independent Health), Kelly Dumas (Chief Strategic Initiatives Officer of BestSelf Behavioral Health) and Rhonda Frederick (President of People Inc.).
