Shawn P. Martin
Mr. Martin is an experienced trial attorney who focuses his practice on civil litigation matters including municipal liability, personal injury, commercial transportation, premises liability and product liability. Mr. Martin is the Town Attorney for the Town of West Seneca where he is also a member of the Board of Directors of the West Seneca Development Corporation.
Prior to joining Hurwitz & Fine, P.C., Mr. Martin spent six years in private practice as a litigation attorney in Cleveland, Ohio. He also worked as a court clerk for the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas and as a law clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.
In 1995 he was appointed by the Ohio Attorney general to conduct an investigation into the failure of the insurance company Physicians International Exchange. This investigation was done in conjunction with state and federal law enforcement officials. Additionally, he was appointed by two local municipalities to investigate alleged improprieties in various municipal departments. He also served as the Assistant City Prosecutor for the City of University Heights, Ohio.
He is a member of the New York State Bar Association and is admitted in the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Supreme Court of Appeals for the 2nd, 3rd and 6th districts. Mr. Martin is Chair of the Municipal Law Committee of the Torts, Insurance and Compensation Law Section of the New York State Bar Association.
He received his Juris Doctor from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University. There he was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award for excellence in the study of Torts. He also has a Baccalaureate degree in Business from Buffalo State College.
