Paul J. Suozzi
Mr. Suozzi heads the firm’s Governmental Tort Liability and Medical Malpractice and Medical Device groups and focuses his practice in defending governmental tort cases, medical malpractice, drug and medical device matters and civil trial litigation.
Mr. Suozzi has overseen the firm’s representation of over 100 counties, towns, cities, villages and school districts. His broad experience in personal injury defense ranges from construction, premise, road and recreation matters to claims of lack of supervision, sexual harassment and civil rights violations.
Mr. Suozzi has been actively involved in the litigation of drug products, medical malpractice, medical device and dental malpractice matters since he started practicing law in 1979. Prior to joining Hurwitz & Fine, P.C., he worked at Bower & Gardner in New York City where he specialized in medical malpractice and drug product liability litigation and was on the team that acted as national lead counsel defending the Upjohn Company in Provera litigation. He has also represented several drug manufacturers, an infant home, an imaging service provider, a physical therapy provider, dozens of individual practitioners, numerous hospitals and several different nursing homes in litigation involving medical negligence and drug products liability. He regularly acts as counsel to the firm’s many medical clients in assessing potentially litigious matters.
Mr. Suozzi is a member of the Executive Committee and is former Chair of the Torts, Insurance and Compensation Law Section of the New York State Bar Association where he is also a member of the Ethics Committee and the Municipal Law Committee, which he formerly chaired. He is a member of the Erie County Bar Association Municipal and School Law Committee, the Western New York Trial Lawyers Association, the Defense Research Institute and is past president of the Defense Trial Lawyers Association of Western New York.
He has lectured frequently on the subject of tort liability for both the New York State Bar Association and the Erie County Bar Association and is highly experienced in all aspects of civil trial litigation.
Mr. Suozzi is a member of the Volunteer Impact Council for the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County and he has previously served as a member and Chairman of the Lawyers Steering Committee. He is a past Vice President of the Alumni Association of the University at Buffalo Law School.
Mr. Suozzi is a graduate of the State University of New York at Binghamton and a graduate of the University at Buffalo Law School, where he was an editor of the Law School newspaper and a featured columnist.
