Mr. Mooney has years of experience litigating large loss cases in product liability, professional malpractice, toxic tort, trucking, railroad and other catastrophic injury matters. He is a lead member of the firm’s 24-Hour Emergency Response Team. He regularly conducts presentations and training to in-house counsel, claims professionals and legal professionals across the country. Mr. Mooney is a member of the firm’s Board of Directors and heads the firm’s Litigation Department.
Recognized nationally and locally, Mr. Mooney was named to the list of the Top 10 Lawyers in all of Upstate New York (all areas excluding Metropolitan New York) by New York Super Lawyers Magazine. Mr. Mooney was named Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers in America for Buffalo Product Liability Law for 2012. He was also named Defense Trial Lawyer of the Year, receiving the 2007 Robert Kiebala Memorial Award, a recognition presented annually by the Defense Trial Lawyers Association of Western New York to a defense attorney who has made significant contributions to the profession.
Mr. Mooney is a former member of the board of directors of the International Association of Defense Counsel (the oldest and most prestigious organization of attorneys focused on representation of corporations and insurers); and is a Past President of the Harmonie Group (a national network of defense attorneys who work to ensure national coverage for their clients).
Mr. Mooney is also active in the various bar associations, working to ensure proper representation of clients within the legal system. He is a member of the Torts Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association; a member of the Torts, Insurance, and Compensation Law Section of the New York State Bar Association, former Chair of its Special Committee to Improve the Civil Justice System, and former Vice Chair of its Civil Practice Law and Rules Committee; and former Chair of the Professional Continuity & Responsibility Committee and present member of the Ethics Committee of the Erie County Bar Association.
Mr. Mooney is a 1969 graduate of Canisius College with a Master of Arts degree from Seton Hall University which he obtained in 1972. He graduated cum laude from the University at Buffalo Law School in 1975.
